Are Unions Relevant
Of course unions are relevant even more so today. But what is the real issue for folks out there is why should I belong to a union when it creates two tiered system. When the union cannot stand up and fight to make sure that new employees get the same pension as senior employees you going down the slippery slope. What people want is a union that will fight for them... not raid other members.
When a union puts it locals in trusteeship. CEP Local 191 CEP Local 777 One has to really wonder what...

President's Op-Ed: Crisis in B.C. Forests
27 May '10
Massive budget cuts and self-regulation endanger our forests and threaten the environment
Since first being elected in 2001, the B.C. Liberal government has gutted the Forests and Range ministry, removed much of its statutory authority and handed over control of public forests to the very companies who profit most from the resource.
The B.C. Liberals’ Forest and Range Practices Act (FRPA), passed in 2002, essentially transformed the forest...

Sick leave isn't a magic card to dodge dismissal
By André Royer, Montreal Gazette June 17, 2010 10:02 PM
I am sick, therefore I can't be dismissed?
Borden Ladner Gervais LLP recently secured an important victory for employers before the Quebec Court of Appeal on this issue. It is a significant judgment because it confirms a medical certificate is not a panacea for countering a dismissal by an employer

CEP Construction Arm Happy When Rival Loses Members so it Does Not Have to Raid
We sure received a lot of comments about the issues happening between CULE and CEP. It seems that some in CMAW are happy that Canadian Association of Skilled Trades is losing members in BC. There are likely a number of issues within each organization but appointing delegates to convention where is the democracy.
The whole idea of trade union solidarity is that there should not be raiding going on. It should be about organizing the unorganized and trying to get more members into the union not...

There are so many comments. Thanks to this comment we have been able to do some research. It appears that CEP did organize security guards. No press release indicating that they have a first agreement. There was no mention of this press release on the CEP web site.
If some wants to call Wally to find out that would be great.

Not just any missing money international missing money. Forget about he fact that CMAW Local 1995 appointed all its delegates the the recent CMAW convention. CMAW 1995 Appoints Delegates to CMAW Convention It should be an interesting fall as the CEP Construction Arm folks decide if they want to still belong to CEP. A guess at the rate CEP is...
